What are the differences between the old and new courses

The first obvious difference is the change in exam codes. The new Core series will replace the old 220-901 and 220-902 with exam codes 220-1001 and 220-1002. The 220-1001 exam will deal with network troubleshooting, networking technologies, Cloud computing concepts, mobile devices and virtualisation. The 220-1002 exam will cover the installation and configuration of operating systems, operational procedures, the troubleshooting of software and security. The revised exams also cover scripting. This is to ensure that you are able to interpret code in order to identify malicious script that should not be present. The exam will still consist of a maximum of 90 multiple choice, drag-and-drop and performance-based questions with an allotted exam time of 90 minutes. The pass mark for the 220-1001 exam will be 675 on a scale of 100-900 and for the 220-1002 exam, 700 on a scale of 100-900. Best certifications for cloud computing

As cloud computing becomes the new normal in IT, more cloud-related credentials pop up. Many of them are specific to individual vendors, including Microsoft, VMware and Amazon. Check your current knowledge and experience

There are a few great websites to help you prepare for the test. Professor Messer and Certblaster were my favorites for preparing. Both have a bunch of study and preparation tools, as well as free video series. Personally, I studied for the test with three other people and we also had access to security professionals at IBM. Not everyone will have that luxury, but finding an expert online is not very difficult. Using Reddit or joining an online IT group will achieve the same goal. In the process of studying, it is best to get as much hands-on experience as possible. Actually going through exercises that come up on the test goes extremely far for understanding the concepts tested. My last tip would be to skip the performance-based questions initially. Instead, go straight for the multiple choice questions and then go back. Everyone I know who didn’t feel pressed for time during the exam did this. It isn’t 100% necessary but is definitely a better flow for the test. Many positions requi

Profiling Hackers in the MITRE ATT&CK Navigator

Using the MITRE ATT&CK Navigator or similar tools, organizations can categorize attacks by specific threat groups and threat actors. It is even possible to profile the technologies and the procedures attackers use. In short, you will have a strong idea of the next move your opponents are going to make. Notice that each of the technologies is categorized into a version of the hacker lifecycle. The top of the page reads Initial access, Execution, Persistence, Privilege Escalation and so forth. These are the general steps that attackers take as they compromise a network. The MITRE ATT&CK Navigator then allows you to profile specific attack groups. Each group profiles an actual group of cyberattackers. Using this model, you can quickly identify how each group operates. Going back to my baseball analogy, imagine if you knew that a group of pitchers behaved a certain way. Now, you can profile that behavior and train your batters to best address how those pitchers are trying to defea

Social Networks at a Crossroads

For years, social networks have claimed that they are neutral platforms as opposed to publishing organizations. The theory was that the openness of social media would allow many voices to flourish and that the community would provide the necessary guidance for veritable information. That theory has not quite played out in reality, and an executive order from President Trump places the responsibility of social networks in the spotlight. The text of the order…targets a law known as the Communications Decency Act. Section 230 of the legislation provides broad immunity to websites that curate and moderate their own platforms and has been described by legal experts as "the 26 words that created the internet.” It argues that the protections hinge mainly on tech platforms operating in "good faith," and that social media companies have not. The executive order is under heavy legal scrutiny, and there is debate around its full intent. Whatever the actual intent may be, the end r

Microsoft Certifications entry level

The mass majority of computers used within organizations run Microsoft operating systems. With this in mind, knowledge of Microsoft technologies is vital. Earning the latest Microsoft certifications is the best way to prove this knowledge to employers. As a general rule, plan to study about 60 days for any Microsoft certification exam. This assumes you have a solid IT knowledge base and meet the prerequisites for the exam. People that self-study Microsoft certifications commonly use virtualization to create entire practice networks. If you have a powerful PC with plenty of RAM, you can easily set up a virtual environment with one or more virtual servers and one or more virtual desktop systems. For those who prefer to learn in a classroom (or virtual classroom) environment, there is a variety of instructor-led Microsoft training programs. MCSA The Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) group of certifications provide a foundation for Microsoft technicians. This group includes s

CompTIA’s Growing Interest in Smart Strategy

These included smart transportation, smarter digital infrastructure, citizen engagement, digital citizen services, smart and big data, data visualization, public safety, healthcare services, leadership and vision, and citizen pride and satisfaction. Members of the council also addressed the growing interest in smart strategy, with a specific focus on research indicating popular areas of interest. For example, when asked about which tech trends city officials are most interested in hearing about further, 25% of respondents indicated their interest in learning about the ways in which IoT and AI can open new possibilities in ambient computing. Additionally, city and county stakeholders were asked what components of smart strategy they’ve considered if their IT department has a role in that strategy. The two most popular responses included a roadmap that communicates

Select a CompTIA A+ certification study guide

People don’t care until they have skin in the game. Certification exams cost money. Sometimes a lot of money. Yet, when you are first starting on your journey to certification master, there is this temptation to achieve good results with minimal cost. This frugal attitude can sometimes be our downfall. Buying a CompTIA course not only gives you access to massive amounts of resources but forces you to be a steward of your time and education. When things are free, they often aren’t as valuable to us. This is why it is great to buy a book or course covering the CompTIA A+ exam. Not only does money put teeth into studying, (you want to pass so you can earn money and make that purchase worth it) premium resources usually cost money. This is good news though! Education in certification is an investment and it is a far better deal to spend $10 on some serious material then pay another $300 to retake a failed test. Seriously consider fasting from Starbucks for a few a drinks to save some cash

Fighting for Technology Companies

Throughout 2018 the CompTIA Public Advocacy Team worked with member companies to collaborate on efforts to represent and promote the entire tech industry in Washington, DC, in states around the country, and in international markets. We presented a strong and unified voice on several critical issues facing the industry today. From our trip to China to discuss ongoing trade negotiations to our efforts in California on consumer privacy, CompTIA ensured that lawmakers understood the critical role technology companies play in driving our economy and improving our daily lives. CompTIA’s Federal Policy Team is focused on communicating directly with Congress, the White House, and federal agencies through lobbying, grassroots, and thought leadership. Throughout 2018, the team leveraged their expertise and their networks to appropriately position CompTIA and the technology sector within core policy debates. CompTIA tracked 764 bills introduced in Congress this year. At the same time, the federa

Guide to the IT Help Desk

At first, the technology experiences an almost immediate peak of massively hyped, outsized expectations. Then, it is followed by an almost-immediate drop, where the technology crashes into the trough of disillusionment. Then, as the technology is actually adopted, reactions fall away, and the technology is, in many cases, put to work. Gartner tracks this curve quite well, and even creates a nice little image so you can see where any given technology is in the hype cycle. Blockchain has been traveling along quite nicely and is now in the trough of disillusionment, at least in the popular mind. The Ethereum Classic hack pretty much is the signature event that put blockchain there. It’ll be wise to add additional staff to your service desk or IT team for post-migration support. An increase of support requests from the end-users is certain. Most will probably be related to how-to questions. When the migration is completed, do a postmortem to discuss what went right and what could have bee

Advance Customs Procedures and Practices that are Streamlined, Effective and Transparent CompTIA advocates for policies that ensure the safety and security of shipments crossing borders. The aim is to support best practices for compliance with laws and regulations in a way that also minimizes financial and administrative impacts on our member companies. CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner

When the U.S. Navy needed a way to assess its cybersecurity practitioners, CompTIA answered the call with the CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+) certification in 2012. But this advanced-level cybersecurity certification can be applied to the corporate sector as well. The IT certification validates the skills of some of the highest-paying cybersecurity jobs, according to Cyberseek, including cybersecurity architect and cybersecurity engineer. The following topics are covered by this cybersecurity certification: Risk management Enterprise security operations and architecture Research and collaboration Integration of enterprise security CASP+ is the only hands-on, performance-based certification for cybersecurity practitioners – not managers – at the advanced skill level. While cybersecurity managers help identify what policies and frameworks could be implemented, CASP+-certified professionals figure out how to implement solutions within those policies and frameworks.Have con
